CYBER HACKING & THEFTS - Be Safe When Surfing!

How safe actually are you when using a free Wi-Fi such as those available at hotels, shopping complexes, airports, and even inside airplanes to surf the internet, and then logging into your blog or VPN for all your online banking stuffs?
Well the typical answer is: Quite on the “very low” to almost “none at all”.
Internet has become a gold mine for those air hack pirates. Sometimes when you have access to the internet via hotel complimentary Wi-Fi connections, think twice about logging into anything sensitive; an “evil twin site”, sometimes referred to as WI-phishing, is a potential security threat to users of Wi-Fi, predominantly in public hotspots. A hacker sets up what is called a “rogue access point” which impersonates the characteristics of the network to which users expect to connect. Users unknowingly connect to the rogue access point and the hacker’s network instead of the intended network and all your passwords would be harvested.
This “evil twin” is a potential security threat to users of Wi-Fi (it does not matter WEP or WPA key-shakes), and predominantly in public hotspots. An accomplished hacker would set up a “rogue access point” which is a convincing carbon copy in the fullest available characteristics of the network to which users expect to connect. Users unknowingly connect to the rogue access point and the hacker’s network instead of the intended network. The “evil twin” hijacks data, such as passwords, account information, credit card information, etc., and then connects the user to the Internet as intended and the users (by now the victims) would know nothing of the security breached which had just transpired.
It’s relatively easy to intercept session-IDs, cookies or random strings in the session URL from nearly all popular web applications, such as Gmail, Bloggers, Facebook, You Tube, Word Press, Hotmail, AOL and Yahoo Mail, when you're using Wi-Fi. Interception works even if you're using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
Using certain software’s and a basic notebook, a hacker may crack a 6 character password in roughly 5.15 minutes, 4 characters password could be done in less than 50 seconds and for 3 characters (no longer allowed by providers) it’s just in mere 0.05 seconds. So use a 14 characters password instead because even with the best software it would still take around 2,046 millennia to crack and that’s a very polite way of saying “till hell freezes over”.
Combine your passwords in alphabets and numbers and for none less than the maximum allowable 14 characters for a “Strong” password. Just adhere to all suggestions made by your service providers for safe surfing and you should be okay. If you suspect that you have just recently become a WI-phishing victims, immediately notify all your internet bankers by voice phone calls (they have 24 hours global connection hotlines) and freeze your internet banking accounts until you could pay them a visit and change the numbers over the counter the next day.
Yes true, it does not have to be just through a “free” hotel Wi-Fi for them to do the hacking act. WI-phishing could be done from anywhere and just about on any access point you may be entering the www connections from. But complimentary hotel Wi-Fi is a lot more dangerous for the very reason that they already have your credit card numbers and most of your privy details upon check-in…
And if you are using your mobile phone’s Wi-Fi to surf along free Wi-Fi spots and you also happen to be on a “Pre-Paid” system for your mobile telecommunication service, well they could easily clean out your credits the next time you try to surf on a “free” Wi-Fi. If possible, go “Off-Line” first with the phones before establishing a W-LAN connection off line. Truth is nothing is really free anymore these days.
My final advice for now is, to never ever disclose any credit card numbers on the emails, never list down phone numbers in close succession on the emails (if you must send out numbers do it like this 012-12 3 45 6 7 instead of the standard format of 012-123 4567. The hacker bots would miss this most likely. But absolutely NO credit cards numbers and if you are using free Wi-Fi; make it a habit to change your password in every 24-hours cycle and use only “Strong” password set ups. I change my passwords every 2 weeks (and do write them down in your safe data storage).
Well, thanks for coming by, and safe surfing to everyone.
Deliah’s Deli says a big: “Thank You” to the IT faculty for helping me out overnight with this cyber episode ;)

MEATLOAF; A Good Comfort Food For Iftar.
Meat loaf is a simple basic easy to make home “comfort” food. It is basic, low in cost and easy to make whilst at the same time, containing very good nutritional values and depending on your kinds of side garnishing, it may in the final presentation be transformed into one healthy nutritious meal for the whole family. It is perfect for iftar as it is not too heavy on you and that helps during tarawih prayers.
The world’s total meat supply was 71 million tons in 1961 but by 2007, it was estimated to be around 284 million tons. Global per capita consumption has more than doubled over that period. Surprisingly, in the developing world, the numbers even rose twice as fast, doubling in the last 20 years suggesting that as our income per capita gets better, so does our diets too. A 2009 projection had stated that global meat consumption is expected to double again by year 2050 to almost 550 million tons per year.
Could there be enough resources for that? Would the environment of tomorrow be able to support human imminent desire for more food? That’s another topic I guess.
Meatloaf has high protein value and protein is one of the basic building blocks of the human body. Muscle, hair, skin, and connective tissue are mainly made up of protein. And if you chose from an organic beef source for your meatloaf, it would also mean that your meatloaf dish may contain a lesser amount of cholesterol too and that makes it healthier. To be frank, I much prefer the “Malaysianized” meatloaf (no offense) over the other alternatives I have tried.
Easy Peasy Malaysianized Meatloaf Recipe:
1 package of creamy soup mix (any flavor you may like)
A tip on making the beef well mashed together is by using a full cup of home made breadcrumbs. It would also serves as absorptions for the beef melted fats as you bake later.
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 180°C. Mix the soup mix, ground beef, brad crumbs, egg and milk together. Form the combination into a well packed and greased loaf shaped pan (or just use a non stick pan). Combine the rest of the ingredients and spoon onto the top of the meatloaf (so that you get the spicy taste as you first bite into the meatloaf!). Bake uncovered, for about an hour. When done, take the meatloaf out of the baking pan and place on a serving plate. Let stand for 10 minutes (to cool down) before slicing. Serve with your own style and your own taste side garnishing. ENJOY!

BUAH ZAITUN : Khasiat & Keistimewaannya

HOW TO HANDLE DAILY STRESS AND MAKE THEM WORK FOR YOU
Picture yourself near a stream.
Birds are softly chirping in the crisp, cool, mountain air.
No one knows your secret place.
You are in total seclusion from that hectic place called "the world".
The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a cascade of serenity.
The water is clear.
You can easily make out the face of the person you're holding under the water...
There now.....feeling better are we?
Well there we go again good people! It’s stress time! I have seen this going on at work…several friends approached me on this issue lately. So I would put up a posting on the subject I guess. What is stress? Well we have our each every own picture of it. But let’s go technical a bit here. Those aggravating mental assaults, things that go wrong and did went wrong, what goes bump in the night even in dreamland…ever had that folks? Stress is disruptive and has a cumulative effect on your brain and its functions. Your ability to learn and later remember what was taught would be affected and that would be bad if you are a student going through life without pay day yet. What we learn in the day would be store in our RAM side of the mind. It is only short “flash storage” there. When we sleep at night, the mind would download all that was stored in RAM section into our HDD or hard disk drives for permanent memory. We may recollect these information for future usage. But then again, if we are stressed we won’t remember anything that was at all.
As science gains greater insight into the consequences of stress on the brain, the picture that emerges is not a pretty one. A chronic overreaction to stress overloads the brain with powerful hormones that are intended only for short-term duty in emergency situations. Their cumulative effect damages and kills precious brain cells. Dumb dumber dumbest at their best. The term "stress" is short for distress, a word that had evolved from Latin that means "to draw or pull apart, drawn asunder."

Look, I don't care how hectic your schedule is,
I don't care how fast you want to go,
You have just got to learn to use the elevators like everyone else does.
When you hit that stress spot, when you blew your top and when you went berserk, inside your body all system is on full alert for World War 3! Your adrenal gland would release a substance that would act as instigator to your brain, and the substance is known as cortisols. Cortisols would travel devilishly into the hippocampus section of the brain and from here, these cortisols would re-enact Karate Kid part 1 to 3 all in one showing. What prevent this from happening are our hormones. Hormones that would be deployed on full deployment and they would swiftly track down these rebel cortisols one by one and send them to the bladder for immediate purging (nangis sampai terkencing bagi kanak-kanak) or sometimes mostly for adults we just sweat them all out. Children has lesser controls over the whole process as oppose to us adults. So go easy on them the next time they wet themselves in a tantrum.
You have now returned to calmness again, you have arrived to a state of body, mind metabolic equilibrium which is known as homeostasis. When a perceived threat has moved over and away from you, your brain shall initiate a reversal of the whole process described earlier and this would also disperse various biochemicals throughout the body. But you see, the state of homeostasis is only obtainable when there is absolute balance (equilibrium – I hate that word) between the agitating agents mentioned earlier and their counter measures mentioned earlier as well; the cortisols and the hormones. If for any reason they fail to strike a deal for peace and demilitarization somewhere in there, than you would continue to experience imbalance that would drag on to other parts of your life. To your sleep pattern, your relationships, your eating habits – everything! And it would change you in no small ways. As we age, it even gets worst. Once you have activated your stress response cortisols, the brain would actively keep them ready for efficient faster redeployment again (should they be needed) just in case. And this would make you tense and fidgety at the very least 24/7/365.

Stress has its purpose on our body developments. When you are stressed out, your body releases norepinephrine. The function of this substance is to make us think more positively, it makes threats or problems or even danger looks less a threat and more a challenge that you want to overcome. It is when you feel that you would like to overcome that fear for a greater goal or accomplishment, it gives you confident and it helps you to remember things and it also helps to develop our thinking faculty much further. It’s like the saying, “once beaten twice shy”.
Stress management is the key, not stress elimination. The challenge in this day and age is to not let the sympathetic nervous system stay chronically aroused. This may require knowledge of techniques that work to activate your relaxation response. Some kinds of acute stress are beneficial. For example, Ohio State University researchers found that stress from engaging in a memory task activated the immune system, whereas the stress from passively watching a violent video weakened immunity. Ever had that feeling like when you stepped out of a cinema and you suddenly feel like coming down with fever but recovered quickly soon after? The result produced by the Ohio State University suggest that time-frames and work pressure, even if the are totally annoying for a short time, could be a good thing that helps strengthen the body's defenses for the long run.
I think that overcoming a stress would make us better person, more weathered and less edgy on the edge. On the whole, none of us could avoid stress. Maybe we could lessen it, but no way could we eliminate them all together. So the key here is managing stress, effective stress management. How do you do that?
Well it is a known fact that stress causes reductions in productivity, increases managements chores and it would in the long run destroy anything on its path if left untended. The key to de-stressing in the moment is getting away from or removing your self from the stressor. Developing new habits which regularly remove you and distract you from stressors and stressful situations and pressures is essentially how to manage stress on a more permanent basis.

Hehehe! Hohoho!
Humor is one of the greatest and quickest devices for reducing stress hence the saying “laughter is the best medicine”. Humor works because laughter produces helpful chemicals in the brain. Humor also gets your brain thinking and working in a different way - it distracts you from having a stressed mindset. Distraction is a simple effective de-stressor - it takes your thoughts away from the stress, and thereby diffuses the stressful feelings.
Therefore most people will feel quite different and notice a change in mindset after laughing and being distracted by something humorous. So laugh yourself silly at any chance you get! Do not be afraid to laugh out loud in the office!

Whoops!
Go for a short quick really brisk walk outside. Yes, actually leave the building. Change your environment. Walk away from the stress point. Breathe in some fresh air and smell the atmosphere. Trees, rain, flowers, freshly cut grass - doesn't matter - stimulate your senses with new things.
Go get a big cup or a bottle of water. See, when we drink we need to go to the toilet to take care of business and that helps when those wandering angry substance gets purged out and flushed down for good. Anyway, drinking water is always good. I am talking about plain mineral water. This is why you must keep your body properly hydrated by regularly drinking water (most people need 4-8 glasses of water a day).
Take a quick nap. It is nature's way of recharging and re-energizing. A quick 10-30 minutes sleep is very helpful to reduce stress. Sleeping in the day is not lazy or un-productive.

Extreme sporting activities
Take up a new hobby, do what you like as much as you could. Include the family along in it. That would really help in so many ways.
Crying as a “de-stressor”. Whatever the science behind crying, a good bout of it does seem to release tension and stress for many people. Of course how and where you choose to submit to this most basic of emotional impulses is up to you. In the middle of a staff meeting or during an important presentation is probably not a great idea, but there are more private situations and you should feel free to try it from time to time if the urge takes you. Try scheduling one. If by the time you reached that time frame and you feel silly doing it then just ignore it. That means you have already unstressed yourself somewhere along the line from the actual stress point to getting there. It’s like telling yourself that you would distress somewhere later, and with that in mind the brain readily absorbs stress around. But seriously, don’t catch a cough or flu doing it.
Well these are some of the ways to unstressed yourself. It was written with much shortened lines here and there, but I am sure that each of us has their own de-stressing activity to do. Gardening, sleeping, washing the car, watching TV, taking a walk, jogging, or to just read a book as a means of un-stressing. I have a few of my own really. But frankly, at home is my place to relax. So for me, home is always my sweet home and in the kitchen you can find much loving. Alhamdullilah.

THE DOOMSDAY VAULT: Ark Of The Lost Crop

This week I am working on a similar themed paper. But lets go to Hollywood again, except this time we go to the 2012 Doomsday studio section of tinsel town; the new block-buster thriller movie that’s raking in the hundreds of millions for Hollywood. In this movie, we were shown a world that was suddenly facing polarity changes and these changes had affected the earth’s cycle and sequence of normal practices that we have all come to taking for granted. Continents perished when the sea rises far above and beyond the shorelines, cities, civilizations, indestructible military might were all lost instantly to the sea that swallowed everything mankind has come to know, and the world has recycled itself, and replenished itself yet again.

But for me, it’s all about protecting the environment and preserving humanity. A reminder that we humanity must play good to our host mother nature and running our civilizations effectively. But what if – just say what if – the Inca’s got things right? Just say that 2012 Doomsdays happens and then after all the sea swallowing episodes and continent perishing chapter gets done, after the Hollywood credit roll, and humanity need to start anew and evolve again, just how do we go about doing it when all the crop has disappeared?
Well enter “The Doomsday Vault” in the

Seed Bank Is Being Built: Ark of the Lost Crop!
In a cavern under a remote Arctic mountain,
Dynamited out of a mountain side on
A 20m-long concrete entrance still under scaffolding, juts out of snow-dusted mountain above coal-mining town of

Visitors descend through the mouth of a gently sloping 40m steel tube into the frosty cavern which smells of new cement and is dotted with portable lamps as work progresses for February's opening.
There's aren't going to be any better storage conditions than what will be provided here.
Although this is one of the world's most northerly settlements, an electric freezer will be used to keep the seeds in the three-chambered concrete-lined vault at minus 18C. If the power fails, permafrost will still keep them frozen, but not as deeply.
The project is at the heart of an effort by Fowler's foundation, the Global Crop Diversity Trust, to safeguard strains of 21 essential crops, such as wheat, barley and rice. Rice alone exist in about 120,000 different varieties. Ultimately, it is part of the world battle against hunger, as crop insecurity mainly hurts poor nations.
"Crops important to the poorest of the poor have really been neglected," an official at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has provided financial support was quoted as saying of the project, more often referring to such varieties of crops and seeds as "orphan crops" because they have no one to take care of them.

Diversity For Evolution
The aim is to preserve genetic diversity, needed by the plant breeders in the future to produce varieties able to adapt to challenges like climate change. Crops consist of numerous species. If such a store had existed 10 years ago, the seeds would have been needed about once a year as seed collections have been wiped out - for instance by a typhoon in the Philippines and war in Iraq and Afghanistan and those are samples of man made catastrophe.

Eventually, the vault will have capacity for around 4.5 million bar coded seed samples and it hopes in its first year to collect half a million. Not all seeds can be stored by freezing. Banana, the world's fourth or fifth most valuable crop, is one example. The longest viability under these conditions would be that of sorghum - about 19,500 years. Other varieties will need to be replaced more frequently.
"Extinction happens when a species loses the ability to evolve." Seed Packets
Norway is contributing some 50 million crowns (US$8.6mil or RM30mil) to build the cavern, a sum which Development Aid Minister Erik Solheim said was a pittance for what is gained.
"I consider it a development issue. Poor African countries have fewer resources to protect their genetic heritage than rich countries," he said.
The Gates Foundation, the philanthropic giant created by the founder of Microsoft, has given a US$30mil (RM105mil) grant to Fowler's effort, including money for packaging seeds in their countries of origin and shipping them to the vault.
Some of Gate's money has gone to develop a new style of seed packet, a small silver-coloured pouch made of a special foil and layers of other advanced materials to keep seeds dry and frozen - the "Rolls Royce of seed packets".

The Gates Foundation is also helping develop two software systems, one to help manage seed banks and another to link them globally so that plant breeders can find what is available.
"Seeds are almost the software of natural world that has taken millions of years to develop, and we don't know how we will need them in the future," - those words came from the Gates Foundation. Well, I say we should also include all the recipes found on blogs!

THE GIFTS OF THE OLIVE TREE

Surah Al Nur ( 24:35) (The Light)
Not all oils are created equal, and the ancient Egyptians, the Persians, the Romans, the Greek and the Italians understand best the different strengths, flavors and aromas that distinguish one oil from the other. Olive oil is pricier than their comparative others, and in
Choosing an olive oil is very much down right to personal taste. The right selection would successfully capture the diversity of flavors that makes cooking with olive oil so delectable and enjoyable. It is an art form, so enjoy each cooking when you do with olive oil. I am not an expert at olive oil, but my father who hails from a Middle Eastern origin has taught us some basic tips on olive oil and even some more on its cooking. As for me, I would alternate between my cooking with olive oil and our natural Malaysian palm oil which is cholesterol free and rich in Vitamin E. To me, both of them are healthy. But if you want that extra taste, try olive for a change. But do take note, some traditional Malay dishes such as Rendang, kuih-muih and Serunding would definitely go better with our local palm oil. Don’t try it any other way :)
Well, anyhow here is a list of some simple table guide at selecting olive oil to enliven your cooking concept in Ramadan. It would give some of your cooking an unmistakable Mediterranean flavor.
Delicato:
This is a somewhat mild olive oil with broad flavor suitable for most dishes. As it remains stable at very high temperature of up to 250C, it is also ideal for baking, BBQ or frying dishes.
Extra Vergine:
This is made from the first harvesting and the first pressing of olives. It is packed with superb fruity flavors and has a very soothing fragrant aroma. This is also suitable in the preparations of salads and especially superb to go with the Iranian dish Sabzi Khordan. It could also just be eaten fresh with bread! This is table olive oil.
Gentile:
This is mellow oil, with a sweet, fruity flavor which won’t overpower the taste of delicate dishes such as fish, prawns, crab, or chicken set for slight frying or roasting.
Robusto:
This is the full flavored, peppery olive oil that’s delicious with antipasti, red meats and hearty pastas and even the risotto. Robusto would stand high heat almost similar to Delicato, and I would use this kind of oil in making meatballs or roasted lamb.
Tradizionale:
This is the unfiltered variant and the one that would sometimes requires “acquired taste” to its liking. It’s very peppery and raw in taste and texture. It would stand high temperature of up to 220C. It is suitable for roasting and BBQ of lamb.

FOOD ALLERGY - what every parent needs to know
It has been 100 years since the word “allergy” was first coined in 1906 and yet we have not found a cure for it. Therefore, prevention remains the only way to curb allergy. And it is every parent’s duty to give his or her child an allergy-free life.
In the present threat of A-H1N1, it would also be prudent for us to watch our diet intake as the wrong food, could always induce our allergies into going hyper active in mere minutes! Always avoid foods that have rich preservatives/bacterial contents. Belacan, cheese, udang kering, ikan kering (all the good stuffs!) & etc…well you know the drill, different people different food groups! Eat healthy food and enjoy a healthier life style. Make it a part of daily living.
What Every Parent Needs To Know About Food Allergy
Allergy is on the rise in many countries across the world including
Let’s Start By Getting To Know The Basics About Food Allergy
Is your child at risk of food allergy?
Food allergy is increasingly common and is distressing for both parents and children. Although it has no age barriers, food allergy usually begins during the first year of life. Most children outgrow certain allergies by the time they go to school: however, in many others, they persist into adulthood. Those at highest risk are those with family history of allergies.
How does food allergy come about?
Normally, the immune system attacks harmful bacteria, viruses and foreign substances in the body while recognizing food as harmless. Food allergy arises when the immune system mistakes a particular food component, usually as protein, as dangerous and attacks it.
What are the symptoms of food allergy?
The symptoms of food allergy include itchiness, eczema, dermatitis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, wheezing, asthma and bronchitis. Most reactions are mild but some individuals may have severe reactions that can be fatal.
What kind of food can cause allergy?
Any food is capable of causing allergy, some more than others. Highly allergic food includes cow’s milk, egg white, soy, fish, shellfish, crab, shrimp, lobster or crayfish, and peanut. Allergy to cow’s milk is particularly common in infants.
Why is allergy prevention important?
Although affective treatments are available, there are currently no cures for allergies. Therefore, it makes sense to prevent allergies, if possible, in infants and children. Furthermore, the incidence of allergies is increasing (35%) and presents a major childhood problem. Long-term protection is needed as the development of one allergy can predispose your child to further allergies – for example, food allergies, later in life. The cost of treating allergies is also constantly increasing not only in terms of healthcare but also the hidden cost of poor quality of life for your child and family.
What should I do to prevent my child from developing allergies?
The best way to prevent allergies is to breastfeed your baby exclusively for at least 6 months. it is It is the perfect hypoallergenic milk and an important source of antibodies called immunoglobulin A (Ig A). The following measures have also been proven to be highly affective in preventing or reducing the food allergy risk:
· Recognize your baby’s allergy risk by recording your family allergy history
· If you are unable to breastfeed due to medical reasons, discuss with your doctor other options such as hypoallergenic formula
· Soy milk and goat’s milk formulae DO NOT effectively reduce the risk allergies
· Wean your baby only after the sixth month onwards. Introduce one new food a week but avoid highly allergenic foods for the first year ( refer to the Guide for Prudent Weaning for more information)
· Take measures to reduce the amount of dust in the house
· No pets at home or at the child care center
· No smoking during pregnancy or in the presence of your child
What is hypoallergenic milk formula?
Today, advanced food research can modify cow’s milk proteins to become less allergic. Using a process called hydrolysis, the potential for allergic reactions of the proteins is reduced by breaking them down into smaller particles by using enzymes such as alcalase. A hypoallergenic milk formula is one in which its protein is less allergenic and is formulated to prevent allergies.
Is soy formula better at preventing allergies than cow’s milk formula?
No. Studies have shown that the use of soy formula does not prevent the development of allergies in children. About 15-50% of children who are allergic to cow’s milk are also allergic to soy milk. In fact, studies have shown that the use of hypoallergenic milk formulas in high risk infants reduces the risk of developing eczema and cow’s milk allergy in infancy and childhood.
And Now, For More Interesting Facts and Finding About Allergy
Our intestine is the larger immune organ of the body
Let’s take a peep at our intestine. Apart from being a digestive organ, our intestine contains about 80% of all antibody-producing cells in the body, making it our largest immune organ. our intestine is also home to trillions of bacteria, both friendly and unfriendly, forming what we call the intestinal micro flora, which apart from keeping us generally healthy, also plays an important part in the prevention of allergy.
Introducing the friendly bacteria, Bifido-bacteria (or Bifidobacteria)
A newborn’s intestine is sterile but within hours of birth, it becomes colonized by microorganisms from the mother’s birth canal and the environment. In exclusively breastfed infants, a particular type of friendly bacteria, the Bifidobacteria, becomes dominant and eventually makes up 99% of the total bacterial count.
Bifidobacteria plays an important role in the prevention of allergies
At birth, your child’s immune system is immature and so is susceptible to infections and allergy. Bifidobacteria stimulates the maturation and functions of your child’s intestinal immune system. In fact, it was found that young children suffering from allergies have less bifidobacteria compared to those without allergies. In addiction, bifidobacteria also offers protection against intestinal infections caused by harmful bacteria. An example of such an infection is gastroenteritis which leads to diarrhea. Diarrhea is still the leading cause of infant mortality in many underdeveloped countries.
Unfortunately, the population of Bifidobacteria can be jeopardized through several ways…
Method delivery of an infant:
The mother’s gut, skin and vaginal flora are sources of bacteria for colonizing the newborn’s intestine. Hence, the method of birth influences the infant’s intestinal microflora. It was found that an infant born through caesarean section, where there is no contact with his mother’s vaginal flora and faecal flora, experienced a delay in building of their normal intestinal microflora and this microflora may be disturbed for up to 6 months after birth. Caesarean-born infants also have less bifidobacteria, especially if they were not breastfed or were breastfed for only a short time.
Weaning:
The introduction of solid foods leads to changes in the intestinal microflora where the number of bifidobacteria decreases. Incidentally, weaning is also a high risk period because new foods given to the child naturally bring with them risks of food allergy.
But fortunately, the Bifidobacteria population can be restored with bifidogenic nutrients or probiotic
Breast milk has special bifidogenic properties that encourage the growth of Bifidobacteria. For example, breast milk has high lactose, low phosphorus and good quality protein. For mothers who are unable to breastfeed due to medical reasons, milk formulas added with these bifidogenic nutrients are available.
Probiotics are live cultures of friendly bacteria that are used as food ingredients. When ingested, these friendly bacteria offer health benefits to the host, which include:
- Protection against allergic diseases
- Protection against intestinal infections which may cause diarrhea
- Help in the absorption of minerals
- Help in the synthesis of vitamin B and K
One good example of probiotic bacteria is bifidobacteria, which has been successfully added to children’s foods like milk, yogurt and yogurt drinks. Clinical trials have also shown that bifidobacterial cab help improve intestinal health of infants and young children and improve their bowel movements.
DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) and its role in the prevention of allergies
DHA is a long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (LC-PUFA), which not only is required for optimal brain and visual development, but also helps in your child’s immune response with its strong anti-inflammatory actions. Two recent studies have shown that giving DHA-rich fish oil to infants during the first year of life, decreased their risks of allergic rhinitis and asthma up to their fourth year in childhood.
